C&TS Rail Markings Explaination

September 05, 2016 08:50AM
While at the Rendezvous last week end I spotted a section of rail stamped: Carnegie 1897 ET |||. I know a little about markings and did a little more research. I'm interpreting this as: Carnegie Steel, Manufactured in March of 1897, at the Edgar Thomson Works. Does anyone know if my interpretation is correct? Also is there a single good source for researching rail markings/stamps? After some research, I wished I would have looked at the other side of the rail for additional markings.

Thanks,
Ed
