Hello everybody,
on our honeymoon in 1985, my wife and I took a photo, in passing, of an old-timer Mogul near Keystone, SD, on the way to Mt. Rushmore. Now, we've got interested in finding out where it belonged and belongs. Today's Black Hill Central does not report a Mogul. However, at www.steamlocomotive.com, we found a hint in a reprinted listing (Railroad Magazine, Oct.1959) of then-current North-American steam engines, that an ex C&S Mogul were resident at Black Hills Central as no.9. Our photo is not sharp enough to read the number plate but I had guessed at 8 before we found this reference. Take a look, a link to the web page with the photo on it is given below. From a b&w photo of Ben Cutler in "American Steam" of C&S Consolidation #71, I take it that the paint scheme is probably right. Does anybody know about a C&S Mogul having migrated to the Black Hills to stand model for our photo, and if it moved on, to where?
Thanks a bunch, Jochen
