Just before Railfest, I submitted my official Notice of Retirement letter, effective October 28, 2016. I have been with the D&SNGRR for 31 years and sometimes it feels like yesterday and sometimes it feels like a lifetime. In case you didn't know, for 20+ years I had an office in a boxcar in the D&S yard, hence the name BoxcarBetty. (Boxcar Yvonne just didn't have a good ring.) And some call me Yankee Girl since I was born in UPSTATE NY.
I have had the honor to meet so many great railroaders, some are still acquaintances and some have become close friends, and they will all have a place in my railroad memories.
This is a very exciting time for me and I have booked a photography trip to Cuba as one of my first retirement adventures. (Moving to Florida in November to mooch off my kids will be my first adventure!) I'll be coming back to Colorado for the summers. Other than that, I'm taking it day by day!
We are in the planning stages of a Retirement Train party in October and I'll hope to see my railroad friends there.
It's the dirty, sooty people who have made this career so much fun. Thank you all!
Yvonne
