The 3 foot gauge was doomed from the beginning as was "Magic Mountain". It lasted only 2 years. The whole thing sat vacant until 1970 when plans were made to open it back up again, which finally happened in 1971. The train had been removed in the late 60’s and stored north of Colorado Springs. It 1971 it was returned, facing the opposite direction from how it originally ran. The passenger cars and the depot were made into a restaurant. In 1983 Ed Gerlits purchased #42 and traded it to the D&S for charter train trips.
Ed re-gauged the 3 foot rail to 2 foot in 1973/1974 and operated his railroad there for several years
