The West Side loco's

The Town's Engines, those engines who started and ended their work day out of the Mill, would haul " A Single " up the hill and out of town. A Single is actually 19 empty West Side Log Cars (skeletons). The ruling grade on the West Side was 4.5% on the main out of town. One of the daily Towns Trains would stop and add an additional Single. The Double, or 38 cars would then continue up the hill to the Camp Sights.

I don't have the weight of a single log car off the top of my head, but 38 of them up the hill? Its a lot of tonnage.

The Towns Engines were the 8, the 9 and the 10. The 8 was 75-tons, the 9 was 80-tons, and the 10 was 83-tons.

The Woods Engines were the 7, the 12, the 14 and the 15, averaging in at 60 tons each.
