The Byron rail road equipment was built by Byron and Manfred Haitt of Creston Iowa. Byron was a plumber and Manfred worked in the back shops of the CB&Q located there , thus the lights bell and so on. While they started before the second world war it wasn t until the late 40s that every thing came together. The running gear came from The Davenport loco works and was left over surplus from WW 1 In 1960 Byron had to move the railroad to Martensdale Iowa and every thing stayed there until the late 1960s or early 1970s. I left the Martensdale area after high school so I don't have a correct date. In the early 90 s when I sold a CB&Q caboose to the Creston historical group I ask about the Haitt boys and was told Byron was again living in town. I gave him a call and we talked for about an hour, and he told me how he had sold the whole railroad to Geo Long of Monroe Wash., and with his conections to the CB&Q how he packed every thing to go west. The call to Geo came next and that's a whole new story
