Hi,
I have a hang-up with these terms and can not recall if there is a way to convert between them.
Most steamers are rated in pounds of tractive effort (TE). There is a nice formula to calculate this.
Diesels are rated in horsepower.
I have a folio sheet for a PRR B1 (0-C-0) electric that has a rating of 50,000 pounds of "tractive power"
1) Can TE be converted to horsepower? I seem to recall this is more like comparing apples and oranges.
2) What is tractive power? I assume it is meant to be tractive effort.
Thanks.
