I am doing some research on a standard gauge branch that once extended from Willows, CA to Fruto, CA.
Part of the branch still exists, and is used to supply a Manville Corp. fiberglass insulation plant about 3 miles west of Willows CA.
The branch used to extend 11.5 miles further west to Fruto, CA.
Wikipedia says that there once was a turntable, tool shop and depot at Fruto.
SP filed for abandonment of 11.5 miles west of the present end of the branch on 2/19/1946.
I have been able to look on Google earth and follow the grade to Fruto pretty closely.
I am looking for the following information: When was the branch built? Were the rails pulled in 1951?
Does any one know of any photos of the Fruto facilities or photos of the now abandoned line?
