In April 2015, a monument known as “Trail’s End Sedalia” was dedicated in Sedalia, Missouri. Located at a busy intersection near the main entrance to the Missouri State Fairgrounds, the monument features a train and sculptures of cattle and is dedicated to the days in the 1860’s when Sedalia was a shipping point for cattle driven from Texas.
The train is an eclectic mix of equipment, including a heavily modified 4’ gauge 0-4-0 saddle tank locomotive , a 3’ gauge tender and stock car with a standard gauge caboose bringing up the rear. The locomotive is former Lehigh Valley Coal No. 91, while the tender and stock car are ex D&RGW and the caboose is an ex Frisco car. The stock car is former D&RGW 5770, while the tender was built using the trucks and other parts from D&RGW high side gondola 9333. Both cars came from a private collection in Alva, Oklahoma.
The “Trail’s End Sedalia” monument in Sedalia, Missouri is seen here on June 24, 2015.
