RGS Freight cars, a bit less flip of an answer

May 22, 2016 12:18PM
The RGS purchased a large number of used freight cars from D&RG and RGW in 1891-93. A rough list:
Flat Cars: Numbered in the 300's and 500-625. A mix of 10 and 15 ton capacity cars.
Coal Cars(gons): 1000-1344 all 15 ton cars
Box Cars: 1500-1906 all 10 ton cars
Stock Cars: 3000-3061 all 10 ton cars
21 new 15 ton flats, 626-646, were built at Ridgway in 1900.
A lot of these cars were considered not worth the coast of converting to Automatic air brakes & couplers and were sold or scrapped in 1902-03.
1901: 730 cars in revenue freight service
1906: 139 cars
1917: 1 car (a flat)
From then until the Miller cars arrived RGS just used D&RG(W) cars.
