Hi,
I was given a copy of "Night Passage" on DVD. Fist, the menu for choosing the play/scenes etc. had a photo of a Westside shay on it! All markings on the shay had been removed but I think it was at the Georgetown Loop. No mistaking the signature offset boiler shooting the left side of the loco.
I got to thinking (dangerous stuff) about a film festival.
I think there was a Indiana Jones viewing and then ride the C&TS event before.
How about?
Day 1: watch Night Passage and/or Around the World in 80 days (David Niven).
Day 2: ride the Silverton. (Option - layovernight in Silverton and then return the next day)
Day 3: have a day to take the shop tour and visit Durango Maybe watch Ticket to Tomahawk and see Emma Sweeny.
Day 4: Bus ride from Durango to Chama (or Antonito) via the former mainline. Point out Ignacio (Around the World in 60 days) and the like.
Day 5: rest day.
Day 6: Watch Indina Jones and/or "Denver and Rio Grande" (movie) or other movies filmed on the C&TS.
Day 7: Ride the C&TS.
Lots of movies filmed on the Rio Grande narrow gauge and lots of variations. Maybe a booklet with photos from the movie(s) so that passengers can see the filming sites.
FWIW - may have been done.
