Hi,
1834 - $19.75 per troy ounce, raised to $20.67 - devaluation of the dollar by 4.7%
1934 - raised to $35 - devaluation of the dollar by 69.3%
1972 - raised to $38 - devaluation of the dollar by 8.5%
1973 - raised to $42.22 - devaluation of the dollar by 11.1%
Heck of a way to handle a political hot potato.
The release of the dollar to gold and the allowance of private ownership of gold seems to be a way to hide and delay the need for devaluation. The excess spending in the 2008-2010 time frame may have accelerated the need for another possible devaluation.
I now start to understand ONE of the reasons I felt (not completely correct) that my 1973 $4.50 per hour was less powerful as the 1972 $1.65 per hour. Another reason was the starting of college.
