I chased the 611 trips last year, with NO diesel assist. I can attest, that she was worked HARD. I consider standing trackside on Christiansburg mountain, last July, to have been a highlight of my railfanning career. I honestly don't know what is better, actually riding the train, or standing trackside (I was trackside watching first hand when this video was filmed. Please don't get me wrong, I dearly love the Rio Grande Narrow Gauge, and have made my pilgrimages to Colorado and New Mexico. But as a Virginian, whom grew up along the Norfolk and Western, the experience I had watching the 611 pull over the Blue Ridge Grade, and Christiansburg Mountain where religious events too me.
I have already got a few days off work to chase here very soon!
Here is a amazing video taken that day.
