Also, the Marshall Pass road is up on the North side of the Marshall Creek valley (on the old toll road?) at Tank Seven. Coming from the West it doesn't join the RR grade until about the site of Chester. It's easy to spot the change, the road becomes narrower and the color of the surface changes to a grey/black from all the years of ash & cinders.
Chester was the actual foot of the 4% on the West side, WB freights stopped there for 10 minutes to cool wheels and release retainers.
