Off comes the boiler in April

On short notice the crane company notified us that this Saturday (April 23rd) they will be at the Ogden Union Station to perform the lifting. They are donating the time and services, for which the Golden Spike Chapter is grateful. Anybody willing and able to help or watch is welcome, as long as they keep a safe distance and do not interfere with the work. Thanks!

This April will be a huge milestone for the 223 restoration project. The date has not been publicly announced yet, but according to this months Golden Spike Chapter Newsletter,

[We will] do several heavy lifts...in mid-April. The boiler will be lifted from the running gear and placed on the cradle so that we can remove the tubes and start the formal certification process. The smokestack will be removed for cleaning and storage. The running gear will be moved into the 2nd shop bay. And finally, the tender tank will be lifted from its trucks so that the springs can be replaced. We will need all hands on deck for an extended work day when this is scheduled.

The crane has already been arranged for, and everything so far is on track.
