The Reading station at Green lane, Pa., on the Perkiomen branch, had a similar device to transfer freight and express to and from the station, across the house track to the main track. It was a large 4-wheel car with spoked cast-iron wheels, as I recall. Not nearly as interesting as the vehicle in JBWX's photo.
