Re: Nikon Lens suggestions

Had to laugh at your comment about changing lenses in the cab. Reminds me of an old Mark Balkin Story. I think it was 1990 or so they ran the Challenger on this big Stack train from Cheyenne to North Platte. Mark Balkin and Jim Boyd were out there together and Mark would mount these small hi-8 cameras around various places on the engine, etc. All this is according to Steve Lee mind you. So they head out of Cheyenne, and stop for an engine service around Sidney I believe. So Mark comes up from the car to get his cameras, and either change tape or remove them entirely. He had one mounted under the cab on the firemans side behind the firebox. The fireman, (Bob Krieger or Lynn Nystrom) told him that the camera could be hot. Mark told them he knew what he was doing and had placed it far enough back from the firebox. The fireman tried to tell him, that when running the firebox produces a lot more heat than when it is just sitting there. Mark would not listen and proceeded to grab the camera to start removing it from its mount, and after 2-3 seconds he yelled and removed his hand from the camera. The camera was so hot it was partially melted (Plastic parts), and actually left an impression of part of the camera on his hand. When I was told this story I couldn't stop laughing. I thought of him as "Meltdown Productions" after that. I think he finally got them off by using some heavy railroad gloves. I just wonder if his tape was any good!!!! Scratch one video camera though!!!
