Growing up, I lived up Boulder Canyon and went past this house twice a day. I noticed the round end but never thought much of it until about 2001 or so when I found a photo (at the Carnegie Library in Boulder) of a cabin at the mouth of Boulder Canyon that had been built from a C&N boxcar. The photo was taken soon after construction and the car was still lettered for the Denver Boulder & Western. The info with the photo said that some guy had bought several cars at the Morse Brothers auction in 1920 and turned them into summer cabins in the area where the observation car house is now. That got me to look at the house again and a friend confirmed that the curved part was a C&N-W car.
As best I can tell, the observation car is the only survivor, though it may be possible that a boxcar could be buried in the structure of the house just below it.
