Another Colorado & Northwestern Then & Now

Had to wait until I got home to find the "Then" photos for this one...

The C&N-W / DB&W had four observation cars, numbered 15 to 18. According to the 1920 Morse Brothers auction catalog for the railroad, the cars were 42'6" long and built in Denver. Both the "then" photos below are from "The Switzerland Trail of America"

Amazingly, one of these cars survives (after a fashion) today, built into a house high on a hillside, overlooking the area of the yards in which the "then photos were taken..

East end of the house on July 30, 2015. Note how the curved roof on the end of the car matches that on car No. 16 above.

A view from the neighbor's porch (whose permission I had to be there)shows the roof line of the rail car house. It would appear that the C&N-W passenger car was cut in two and built into the house in an "L" shape.

The house was damaged in the flooding of 2013 and is presently empty and facing an uncertain future.
