Spacing of narrow gauge RR ties

July 28, 2015 07:30AM
We are building some 2' gauge RR and want to do it right the first time.

We have 30 and 35LB rail on ties that are 4' long and measure 7" X9". We have a Plymouth that I guess weighs 6 tons or so and some 30' passenger cars weight unknown.

I spoke to one person who is knowledgable about this sort of thing and suggested 18" on center for the ties. If they could be spaced further and obvious cost savings is achieved. No tie plates 4 1/2 X 1/2" spikes

If anyone has some thoughts on this please share them.

Thanks,

Ben Gottfried
