You forgot "uglier".

Anyway, according to HAER (http://www.loc.gov/item/co0043/), it was constructed in 1922.

Most of DPL's pictures of the old bridge are pre-1900, with a couple marked "1900 - 1930", so that seems broadly compatible with a 1922 replacement date.
