NNNG Things to See on the Durango to Denver Drive via Montrose and Monarch Pass

This is Not Necessarily Narrow Gauge...

My wife and I will be driving from Durango to Denver via Montrose, Poncha Springs, Fairplay and then on into Denver (after hitting the C&TS opening day and the D&S on Memorial Day). This is our first time driving this route and While our goal is to make it to Denver by the end of the day, we would like to sight see a bit on the drive. Anyone have suggestions on stuff to see on the way? I know about the Museum at Ridgway and is the 278 still somewhere around Cimarron? I am interested in both NG / railroad related and non railroad attractions close to the highway.
