The only rails near Mono were those of the Mono Railway, which - according to David Myrick's
'Railroads of Nevada and Eastern California' - existed from sometime between 1906 and 1908
when the railroad operations of Mono Lake Railway & Lumber Co. were separated from the pro-
duction of lumber. The parent company was founded in 1906 from the Bodie Railway & Lumber
Company, which in turn was the name of the Bodie & Benton Railway that was created circa 1882
from the Bodie Railway & Lumber Company, which was built in 1881 to supply timber to the mines
in the Bodie area
