Hi,
I think one reason I always liked John Wayne Westerns more after the mid 1950s was there was always a statement (usually by Wayne) concerning the Indian way of life and what a good way it was and how sad it was that it was going away.
Be it Chisum (Lincoln County Wars), Big Jake, The Shootist, many were White against White in a place where the law was shaky. It did not work when it was tried to bring it into modern (1970s) London or Seattle.
I always liked him playing off Maureen O'Hara.
I still say that there have been NO wars since 1979. They are all made up by Hollywood Special effects.
John Wayne was there from the Crucifixion of Christ (Greatest Story Ever Told as an unmentioned centurion) to Genghis Khan to The Frontier in Pennsylvania to WWII to Vietnam.
Without John Wayne to help out, we could not have fought and won any war. So there!!!!
