Dangnabbit, Doug -
Now you've got me lamenting the passage of time and the loss of my own all-time favorite Mexican Café - Kelly's - just down the street from the Shamrock Hotel in Chama, N.M. IIRC, they were both built and owned by the same Irishman, but the cook at Kelly's was Vera Alcon, famous for the "temperature" of her chili. (See [

p.s. I always try to time my travels between here and Chama so that when passing through Kingman, Arizona it's lunch or dinner time. I highly recommend 'El Palacio' there, on the N.E. corner of Old 66 and 4th street in the old downtown. If you need to kill time 'cause you're early - or 'cause there's way too many people waiting outside (which happens sometimes) - drive across the RR tracks and follow 4th street south and west down into the cañon right to the feet of those huge bridges on the Santa Fe's eastbound line (see [
ngdiscussion.net]).
