Here's a set of photos that was taken looking east from our previous comparison. Ron Grau kindly provided the "Then" photo. It is dated 1942 which is after the railroad from Mina to Benton Station had been abandoned, but before it was pulled up (that occurred in 1943).
The "Now" photo was taken on Sept. 14, 2014 The highway has been relocated and much of the railroad grade is now beneath it. Note the identical rock in the foreground of both photos.
We did find one section of grade just north of the highway (towards the center of the field of view) that when hiked for a distance of about 100 yards yielded an interesting assortment of artifacts...
What's also interesting is the vegetation has not superficially changed in over 70 years. In some places where I take comparisons, you will find more brush or less grass, etc., but this area looks pretty much the same...
