We are now seeking and accepting donations for this exciting project.

Still seems like a GREAT idea, John -
(Added 04/27) The authentic 'Old West' train should attract a whole new audience, which will increase ridership, which will require another engine (or two) to handle the additional trains! Maybe a K-37 IS in the C&TS future
...
According to my current bank statement, both my State and Federal refunds have been deposited - so now I have no excuse for not sending a donation your way. IIRC, you posted an address a few weeks ago to which checks can be mailed for the #168 restoration - please post it again, and also provide the C&TS IRS non-profit business ID-number so we donors can take a tax deduction next year!
Thanks in advance,
- Roosso (muy) Loco (aka 'That Wild-Eyed Foamer from California')
p.s. Speaking of K-37's (on that other thread), I have recently scanned a couple more "Moldy Oldies" showing #498 in her next-to-last year of operation. Here she is crossing the Conejos River just north of Antonito in late August, 1967
:*
... And an hour or two later serving as mid-train helper en route to Big Horn Mountain (seen in the background) and points west:
I also came across an old slide of #484 pulling an early-sixties Kiwanis excursion through Osier on the third day of the trip - October 4, 1964, IIRC
:
* This was mid- or late August, but I don't know the exact date. It looks like a second K-37 was the road engine - probably #493 - so it should be fairly easy to determine exactly when this train ran. Help with identifying the road engine and pinning down the date will be much appreciated!!
(Added 04/29): I just picked up a copy of the latest TRAINS magazine yesterday, and do believe this is the same westbound train photographed by John Gruber at Sublette a few hours later, as he was 'foaming' the D&RGW the same week that I was there, and his pics show the same two locomotives.
(Added 05/15): Ernie Robart has confirmed the date to be August 28, 1967. For additional photos of the same train, see [
ngdiscussion.net] and [
ngdiscussion.net]; for the next day's eastbound train see [
ngdiscussion.net]. For further confirmation that these were the same trains photographed by John Gruber, compare his photo on page 23 of the May, 2015 issue of
Trains with the last photo on the latter NGDF page.
