Richard Braden, who posts here on the NGDF as 'Employee2', was the second person hired
by the newly-formed 'Cumbres And Toltec Scenic RR' ("CATS") in the fall of 1970. IIRC, the
first employee of the C&TS was Eddie Martinez, who lived in the Chama depot during the
early days of the railroad. As I recall he was primarily the night watchman, but also filled
several other roles.
I first met Eddie in October, 1970, when he was working as conductor on the work trains hauling equipment obtained from the D&RGW from Antonito to Chama for storage during the winter. Here's Conductor Martinez at the top of Cumbres Pass with Extra 483 East on 10/16/70
