I was there as a teen, in 1966, and again in 1968. Both times we had chased a train from Durango, and ended our day at Gato, where we went inside for a cold drink and maybe a snack. The place was pretty cool, with lots of old army surplus type stuff, old cans of stuff, and so on.
I think I remember the main counter being on the right side of your image,
and that is where you paid the folks. I tend to remember a lady and a man there. Given there was no other place for miles this was a haven for some drinks and maybe a potty stop, which was likely an out house for mom!!!
We had the 67 camper in 1968 but it had no bathroom.
I still remember my brother and I taking turns shooting out the back door when chasing along that relocation road and dusting the 498. Am sure the crew hated us.

our camper which we owned 2 years and we camped no more, and a shot at Carbon Junction the first shot of the day with the train.
