For the mechanical engineers who understand this sort of thing.

Why are the steam domes on some locomotives mounted so far forward compared to other somewhat similar locomotives.

For example, compare the steam dome location of a K-27 with that of a K-28.

Is there any reason for where the location of the steam dome is on the boiler.

By further forward I mean mounted closer to the stack and further from the cab.
