Re: Abandoned Passenger cars!!!

I don't have an exact address or phone number. Earl Knoob and I checked them out in 1996. They are at a Boy Scout camp located along the Alamosa River about 30 miles west of Alamosa. I know the road we followed eventually goes to Platoro and then joins the Cumbres Pass highway at foot of La Manga pass (Horca estates).
In 1996 the cars were structurally sound but were definitely showing their age. Earl and I both gave them less than 10 years before the roofs collapsed and hastened the total destruction of the cars. Both of us felt that they were restorable (as of 1996), but would require a lot of work. They are visible from the road so if you drive out of Alamosa you'll see them on the left in a meadow. The turn off south of Alamosa for this highway is located where the road narrows from 4 to 2 lanes and is located within 5 miles of downtown Alamosa. Check a map and I think you'll find the road I'm talking about. hope this helps, Dave Peterson
