This evening I drove out to the former Magma AZ NG railroad grade to try and capture a glimpse of Comet Lovejoy C/2014 Q2. According to reports it is probably about as bright as it is going to get. The old grade provided fairly dark skies away from the metro area.
This first shot was a 20 second exposure on a fixed mount so there is some streaking of objects. Something happened to zoom across the frame during my exposure to make this somewhat interesting shot. The comet has a nice green tint to it.
This next shot was an 8 second exposure later in the evening. I was hoping to see the tail of the comet but I wasn't able to get much of a shot of it. I can just barely picture a tail that streams off to the lower left.
To get back on topic, here is the grade near my comet viewing site.
