Class A Climax

January 10, 2015 06:59AM
You all did so well with my Shay questions, that I now have a couple about a Climax.

This is a 15 ton T-boiler on the Clemons Logging Company of Washington, photographed in 1926.

I've seen Colorado engines with a wide pipe extending down from the top of the stack, but here we have a narrow pipe dropping to a large box on the pilot.
I initially thought it ended in the box, but now believe it passes just behind it.

I'm also curious about the long length of cable wrapped around the coupler - way too thin for water.
