Distinguihing between DRGW, and C&S locomotive classifications

Hi all,

I've been researching prototype locomotives for my various modeling projects and noticed that the classification for different locomotives are different for each railroad, specifically with 2-8-0's.

To me, a C-16 has the same, or similar, frame and gearing when compared to a standard 2-8-0 from the C&S such as #69 or #71. It looks like the only differences are the boiler, cab and accessories. Yet, I cannot find a place on the Internet that discusses any similarities/differences.

The main reason for this discussion is the fact that in narrow gauge railroad modeling, not a ton of manufacturers produce true prototypes. It's up to the modeler to do any modifications, especially with C&S locomotives. So, if I find a DRGW or RGS C-16 and want to convert it to a C&S 2-8-0, I need to know what the major differences were.

Thanks!
