Fritz Klinke made mention of my newly published book about Hollywood movies and TV shows shot on the Colorado-New Mexico narrow gauge lines in the thread on D&RGW #319 and its use in films.
Many people on this forum responded to my post requesting photos and information last year. I thank all of you. Documenting this often overlooked piece of narrow gauge history has been incredible fun!
"Hollywood's Railroads, Volume Three: Narrow Gauge Country" covers more than 60 films made between 1935 and 2014 on the Denver & Rio Grande Western, Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge, and Cumbres & Toltec Scenic railroads. It is an 8.5 by 11 inch softcover with 72 pages printed on heavy enameled paper. There are 130 photos; 22 of them in color. They are reproduced at 300 dpi.
This book is part of my new series of eight volumes on the subject. It was published out-of-sequence because it was done first. "Volume One: Virginia & Truckee" will be available in February 2015 and "Volume Two: Sierra Railroad" will follow in May 2015. The remaining volumes will come out on six month intervals. Other narrow gauge favorites like Eureka & Palisade #4, Nevada County Narrow Gauge #5, and the Southern Pacific Owens Valley line will be covered. While it is a series of books, each volume is a complete story.
Dealer orders are just beginning to come in. The book is currently available from Chama Steam in Chama, the Animas Museum in Durango, The Bookworm in Gunnison, End of the Line in Georgetown, The Original Whistle Stop in Pasadena, California, and Ron's Books in Harrison, New York. I encourage everyone to support local booksellers. If that is not possible, it can also be found by searching "Hollywood's Railroads" on eBay.
