NNG: Mt. Rainier Scenic Charter Photos

Last month, Pete Lerro of Lerro Productions, combined forces with Martin Hansen and Ron Burkhard to offer a series of freight charters in Oregon and Washington State. The first of these charters was a single-day event on the Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad, a tourist operation in Mineral, Washington. This line has a very impressive roster of five operable steam locomotives, all of which spent their working years in the logging industry of the Pacific Northwest. The featured engines were Hammond Lumber #17, a hefty 2-8-2T saddle tanker, and Rayonier #2, a 3-Truck Willamette, which is very similar to a Shay. The latter locomotive is the only operable example of its type.

The charter featured both engines, with consists of log and freight cars at various bridges, junctions and yards along this scenic line. The weather ran the gamut from fog, to sun, to clouds and rain....we quite literally saw a little bit of everything the Cascade Region has to offer in October. The result was some excellent photo opportunities.

Here's a small album of images that I was able to capture on this trip:
