Hi Ted,
Actually, the combine I am building is based on the Billmeyer & Smalls design. I took all the measurements for my car from the original car and have even replicated the original hardware...ie window locks and window lifts.
The NSRM in Carson City does not have the only narrow gauge track in Nevada. I have built close to 1/2 mile of narrow gauge tract at the NSRM in Boulder City. While it isn't exactly like the D&S or the C&TS, it is enough to give the public an idea of what an 19th century narrow gauge engine looks like under steam. We usually take Eureka to the NSRM BC in December for Christmas festivities.
As for the original E&P cars, they are in pretty sad shape. I hope they get restored someday. But, since they do not belong to me, I had to build my own if I wanted something historically accurate behind Eureka. It may be a recreation, but it is was the only option I had.
By the way, the car as of yesterday, has its first coat on basic color on it. After a couple more coats, it will be ready for striping. I will post a picture of how it looks soon.
