The EBT has two locomotives still completely in their regular service paint. Nos. 16 and 18. The other four, 12,14,15, and 17 have all run in tourist service since regular service ended in 1956. Judging by the multiple layers of paint on all the EBT mikes, painting was simply done in a "touch-up" fashion over the years. A good bit of the paint on some of the tourist service locos may still be from the regular service days, but they have certainly been partially painted in modern times.
Some years ago, I ran a series of charters on the EBT and painted the "trim" that had been highlighted with white, silver and yellow, back to black for the charters. The cab roofs were also painted from the tourist red, back to black. Black gaffers tape was used to cover the brass boiler bands.
