Simple solution to loss of electronic data: multiple backups.
I copy copy important photos from my phone or camera to my laptop. Then I back up to a DVD and on the internet. I also print some that I want to display.
If my phone or camera's memory card dies, I've got the files on the computer. If it goes they are backed up to the internet, and a DVD. Even it my place is completely destroyed by a disaster, and all my devices, and DVDs are lost, there is still the internet backup.
