Upcoming Event: Railfans Weekend
Saturday, August 2 & Sunday, August 3, 2014 ♦ 10am-5pm
Photo special 5:30pm, Saturday only.
The only train of thought at Crossroads Village this weekend is the romance of the rails. Our featured rail history lesson will cover the illustrious Huckleberry Railroad and its historic railcars. Railfans from around the country will revel in the lore of Huck history through the one-of-a-kind train shop tours, model train layouts, historical rail interpretations, tuneful train whistle blows throughout the weekend and a special photo run Saturday evening.
Have you ever wanted a family or group photo on the caboose? If you answered, “yes” Railfans weekend is your chance to get that one-of-a-kind photo. Both the caboose and car 8, a rare 1875 “Duck-bill” clerestory-roofed passenger coach, will be on the siding opposite the depot for viewing.
Learn about the Village’s 111 year-old steam locomotive 464, one of the last two surviving Denver and Rio Grande K-27 engines. Each featured railcar on display this weekend is rich with rail history and can only be seen at the Village. So get away, right away and discover some of our nation’s rail history this weekend at Crossroads Village and Huckleberry Railroad. This event is sponsored by the Mid-Michigan Railway Historical Society.
Take advantage of our special Railfans Weekend ticket offers: A two-train one-day ticket for just $3 more than the normal combo rate, or a two-train two-day ticket for $4.75 more. These can be purchased by phone or at the gate. Regular combined village admission and train tickets are $13 adult, $12 Senior, $10 child 12 and under. Children under 2 are free.
There’s nothing like a train to carry you back to a simpler time. Imagine what a ride on the Huckleberry Railroad can do. Each 40-minute journey behind our authentic Baldwin steam locomotive takes you along the shores of Mott Lake, down a stretch of the historic Pere Marquette roadbed, and back into the heart of Crossroads Village. Grab the kids or your favorite travel companion and listen for the call of the engineer’s whistle. The Huckleberry Railroad is just around the corner. At your Genesee County Parks.
If you have a whistle you would like to hear blown under steam, bring it to the sawmill area prior to the 11 AM and 1PM whistle blows and we will give you a chance to blow your own whistle!
