Re: any guesses?

Hi,

The Roswell RR was built ng in 1881.

In c1905, Georgia Power wanted to build this Dam near Bull Sluice on the Chattahoochee. Southern Ry standard gauged the Roswell for this effort (dates are a little confused about this). The contractor's railroad at the dam was 36" gauge. The Roswell's 0-6-0t was not sold to the contractor. Some of the rest of the Roswell's rolling stock or rail may have gone to the contractor.

The only original 36" gauge set of rails in the state might be the rails sticking out from this dam. When they are not producing power (and before they put a chain link fence around the top of the tail race) you could walk out over the tail race and look down and see the rails. I did take a photo in the 1970's but I've not seen it in years.

This branch to the Roswell was apparently there after the construction of the dam for a few years. My speculation is that it was for repair parts for the dam until the road to the dam was paved.
