Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad train cars vandalized
WMTW Portland
PORTLAND, Maine —Officials with the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad in Portland said they arrived Monday morning to find a number of the train cars had been vandalized
Executive director Donnell Carroll told WMTW News 8 that 20 windows were broken and a couple of door panels had been kicked in.
Also, tools had been thrown around, and a fire extinguisher had been discharged. Pins and safety chains were pulled on the cars.
Carroll said the vandalism likely happened late Sunday afternoon or early Sunday evening, because someone from the nearby yacht club reported seeing smoke around that time, and when they approached the area they saw two young men running off.
The damage is estimated to be $3,000. Carroll did not believe that anything was stolen.
The Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad is a nonprofit that has been at its Portland location for more than 20 years."
