Following planning meetings in Chama on April 11, the May 315 excursion planning is shaping up as follows (status as of 4-15-2014:
May 5-8 Work parties at Antonito. DRHS will install steam connections
and perform other work on 315. Steam up 315 for OB.
A FRIENDS crew will thoroughly ready and test pile driver OB
for operation.
May 11-16 This week 463 (day TBD) will bring up freight cars from
Chama for 315 photo freight use.
May 16 315 steam up
May 17-19 315 excursion from Antonito. The excursion will include one
operational day for the pile driver with actual pile driving
at a remote location. Pile driver operations will be carried
out by a FRIENDS crew who will also provide the steel tipped
pilings.
Saturday and Sunday nights will be spent at Osier. Photo trains
will operate both east and west of Osier to take advantage of
both morning and afternoon low angle light. The aim of the
excursion is to provide photo trains, action, and runby
locations not previously seen (e.g. the last known time a C18
2-8-0 powered the pile driver was in 1948 when 317 worked with
OB on the Ouray branch).
May 23 315 steam up
May 24 315 and 463 double heading on the first regular run from
Antonito to Cumbres, with 315 running light to Chama.
