If IPH had been successful is it's attempt to lease the C&TS. We proposed to rebuild the NG west of Chama as far as La Boca then build new RR over the ridge and down to the Animas River where we would have had "South Carbon Junction". One line would have gone down the existing Farmington Branch to Farmington, the other line would have been new construction over the hill to the La Plata River so serve the coal mines in the area (which REALLY do want rail service).
Of course we would have has to get all the 490's running (and re-create 490 and 496 as modern super power K-37's) and buy all the remaining EBT hoppers in Mt. Union to make this happen. A daily event would have been 4 - 490's tripling a 60 car coal drag up Cumbres.
