Interesting route shown on the map - going through John Day/Canyon City and up Canyon Creek. I had always assumed they would have built up the headwaters of the John Day River to Summit Prairie where the Hines Logging line eventually terminated. The grade out of Canyon Creek would have been a hard pull with lots of sharp curves, especially at the head of Canyon Creek. Maybe this map was not the result of preliminary surveys and more of a "concept"?
