Lowell,
I live just a few miles north of the Cabin Branch Mine and have been researching it for about 25 years. I have assembled about 85 pages of material on this interesting operation (mostly from period newspapers and technical periodicals). I located a copy of the lease agreement, dated 27 April 1910, between the Climax Locomotive Company and the Cabin Branch Mine at the Weems-Botts Museum in Dumfries. The Climax in question was Shop No. 1013, 25-ton Class B, 36" gauge and lettered "Cabin Branch mining Co." Some of the ore cars were of 10-ton capacity. I have assembled a fairly detailed description of the operation of the mine. Finally, I have fairly detailed maps (with the dimensions of the buildings) of the mine complex for 1916 and 1919, with photos that I have taken of the area. If anyone is interested, I will be glad to share but the word file is about 17mb.
Sincerely,
Bill Schneck
