Thanks Dave. The curve wasn't so smooth back in May of 1912 either so 100 years later it still shows why they had an issue here
I don't understand the layout view of the wood drains. There is virtually no drainage ditch on the uphill side of the track (part of the issue IMHO) and the drain boxes are listed as 12' but I can't see any evidence of the intake(s) along the area of the Milepost 21 marker. The downhill (outflow) would be under the derailed cars out of view I think.
Seems like a prime spot for doing some investigation with a metal detector for left over car parts
