Surviving World Steam Locomotives now updated

Surviving World Steam Locomotives is a program on CD-ROM for Microsoft Windows. It includes a database containing roughly 82% of the steam locomotives still in existence worldwide. Included are working, preserved, plinthed, derelict/dumped, and even sunk and buried steam locomotives in 130 countries, as well as so called "Amusement Park" steam locomotives and operational replicas.
The database has been updated for the month of April 2000. It now contains 17,079 steam locomotives; up nearly 1,000 since the program's last update in November 1999. Roughly 1,000 records have also been updated or completed; several duplicates have also been identified and deleted.
The database also includes 400 photographs and three sound clips. 164 photographs are from North America, and several are from the former Soviet Union. You can also add your own photographs to the database, my personal copy has over 2200 photographs to date.
Those who have already purchased a copy are being offered an update. This update includes 200 pictures that do not ship with the current program. Among these pictures are locomotives that are derelict and slowly returning to nature in the Caribbean and Alaska. A "lost locomotive" that has been recently visited by a "Surviving World Steam Locomotive" subscriber for possible extraction and restoring was included as well. Updates also include an "Update Wizard", which transfers pictures and sound clip links to the update from your current copy before overwriting it. Therefore, you do not have to worry about losing your picture collection with each update.
