Right on, Carlos -
And you're not the only one who feels that way!
Here's fireman Al Phillips of the AFT crew sweeping out the cab in Springfield, Oregon (a suburb of Eugene) in mid-November, 1975, after an all-day prep and subsequent overnight run from Salem. As you can clearly see, his mood is curmudgeonly at best
:
A former steamship engineer, Al is fluent in both English and Merchant Marine. SFAIK,
"Mr. Superheater" is now at the Tennessee Valley Railway Museum where he is a key figure on the steam restoration team.

p.s. to JBWX
: Even though he's not an NGDF'er, Al has run both "colony gauge" and narrow gauge Garretts in Africa (IIRC the ones with the seats outside the cab windows), as well as wide-gauge 4-8-4's in Russia. He's a year or two older than Roger and me - possibly almost as old as you - and well-qualified for induction into the Fraternal Union of Curmudgeonly Geezers ("Old FUCG-ers"), a position to which I hereby nominate him.
