For your information, South African railways has a batch of 19 (there were 20, but one was wrecked) GE built 750 horsepower diesels for the 2 foot gauge Avontuur line. See link for a photo.
Some of these have been rebuilt with Caterpillar engines.
They use up to 3 in multiple hauling limestone to a cement works with a 750 ton load. quite a sight!
